We are finally launching Lucky Masks, the super sequel to our mask fundraising project. As mentioned in the previous post regarding our anticipated Lucky Masks Project, all of us at MASTERthese are passionate about helping during the pandemic. It was decided to focus on helping ensure masks were available to workers on the front line during this incredibly difficult time. We began with a fundraiser during which we varied methods and studied results as time progressed. It did not take long for donations to level off, independent of fundraising methodology. Of course, we are incredibly grateful to all of those who contributed funds to help us raise a total of $4,000.

Not only did we learn the limitations of our fundraiser, but we also learned the limitations of our organization. Still, we wanted to do more. But how? Well, since we were on lockdown, we had plenty of time –and we used that time to think and to discuss. Experiencing such an abundance of quality time to think and discuss an important project not categorized as a high-stakes assignment assigned by a whip-cracking teacher was unlike anything any of us remembers experiencing in the past. Yep, our heads hurt, but we think the result is worth it.

Our solution was to put together a Collective of Business Partners to work jointly with MASTERthese on the Lucky Masks Project. By establishing the Collective rather than finding a collective, we can pursue our ideals and vision, and we were able to recruit Collective Business Partners agreeable to help us, free of any price tag.

Overall, there are two main focal points:

  1. We donate masks to those who need to depend on them

Even today, the standards for hospital use of masks are not anywhere near the level they were before the pandemic. Hospitals and others on the front lines still need protective masks. The economy will recover at a point in time after the virus is under control, so we can foresee a point in time when we may pivot from donating masks to putting food on the table for families hit hardest by the pandemic.

2.    We provide COVID-19 education to the public

MASTERthese focusses on educating the public on pretty much everything regarding the virus. Education includes how to use masks, the level of protection offered by various masks, how the virus works, why this virus is so dangerous, possible long-term effects, understanding what the numbers provided by politicians and doctors really mean. Researching these issues so that we can explain them at our website provides also provides our members with a great learning experience.

In short, MASTERthese donates masks and creatively educates the public, whereas, the Collective skillfully handles the business side that enables us to donate masks and provides us with a venue to educate the public.
