Creators of Lucky Masks reveal their powerful motivation

MASTERthese and the Collective of Business Partners noted that the face mask is so simple, and yet it is arguably the one thing that can save both lives and the economy at the same time. Next, we came up with the idea of Americans helping other Americans, independent of race, culture, social status, and economic standing.

When the pandemic first hit the United States, MASTERthese conducted a fundraiser to help provide PPEs to those in need. On the one hand, MASTERthese members were excited to help out; on the other hand, we learned much about masks from the fundraising experience and dreamed of doing more. We needed something simple enough that we high school students can help with it, and yet highly effective in stopping the virus and helping with the economy.

We brainstormed for some time while trying to come up with a plan for what we could do. Inevitably ideas would grow to the point at which we risked creating something that required more skills, resources, and time than we have. In the end, we circled back to our beginning -providing masks met all of our criteria and would enable us to help others in the way we wanted.

After some time, the team came to an agreement that it would be necessary for us to get help from outside sources. We realized that even if we start small, we would need to scale up quickly if this became successful. If we were not in a position to do so, in the end, we would have failed. That was our catalyst for recruiting like-minded Collective of Business Partners.

Starting with deep-rooted ideals and simple concepts, MASTERthese and the Collective of Business Partners worked together to create a beautiful cause behind our Lucky Masks Project. We are excited to share it here:
